Not only does this negatively affec t the natural vegetation, it also contributes to the loss of the beauty of the region. The government also provides residents with information on the best ways of dealing with invasive plants in the region (www.nanaimo.ca n.d., p. 6). By systematically removing them in the place throughout the year reduces their prevalence and spread. To increase the vegetation cover of the indigenous plants, people plant the indigenous plants in the area previously infested with the attack plants, thus making it impossible for the invading trees to thrive (www.nanaimo.ca n.d., p. 6). The more than expensive and sizeable the car, higher the basic cost. Thomas then adjusts the basic cost by multiplying it by various factors, which could furbish up the insurance. Age is to a fault a factor, the older the device driver is, the less they are considered as a try. fire is similarly a factor a fe masculine is considered as a less of a risk than males. The area you live in is likewise a criterion which Thomas considers before issuing an insurance quote, if you live in a high risk sensitive area you are correspondingly to hold more. The customer can then choose what type of insurance he would like third political society only, third party fire and theft or fully comprehensive. The insurance in any case offers an unornamented driver criterion, which can be added at an increased cost. He would also prefer to make more use of his laptop, however his lack of computer skills is a problem and therefore would like to be able to issue quotes on a simple and straightforward system. He would also like to automate the system so that it would be a lot faster to issue quotes and theref ore would not have to spend too much time doing things manually. At the moment he hardly gets anytime to spend with his children especially when there is a heavy workload. Thomas feels that if he were able to get the system to be computerised he would like to employ some staff and rarify and preferably shift into an office. He would also like to work with more than one insurance alliance at the same time if possible in the near future.CONSTRAINTSThere are not many constraints however there are a few which are important. My user Thomas Davidson has no experience of using a computer except for possessing basic typing skills. This means the system bequeath have to be easy and simple to use and understand. An separate constraint is time, although my user does not want the system to be made immediately or as soon as possible. notwithstanding he would like the computerised system to be created soon so that he can use it and update all his handwritten manual notes onto the system and b e able to use it with future clients.USER REQUIREMENTSMy user is Thomas Davidson, who is a broker for S S Insurances for whom I bequeath be creating a computerised quotation system. He would like the following requirements to be taken into account.* To be able to see the amount of money cost of the insurance quote.* To be able to see the total cost of the insurance quote before a discount is given.* To be able to print the quotation.* To make sure that system is skillful and secure.* To be able to see the peaks of all the customers such as forename, surname, age, and the type of insurance they would like.* To be able to store the issued quotes so that they can be apply at a later date.* To enable phone enquiries to be dealt much quick.* To make the system user- kindly.* To make sure the selective information make ited is accurate.* To make the system look professional, systematic and organised.QUANTITATIVE OBJECTIVES* To use a blueprint to work out the total cost of the in surance quote.* To use an early(a) formula to work out the cost of the quote excluding the discount.* To be able to print multiple copies of the quotes.* To make the system password protected so a password get out be contracted in line of battle to enter the system.* To make sure the details about the customers names, surnames, addresses, age and other details can be seen.* To be able to use a command button so data can be stored.* To use drop down strokees to be able to select options.QUALITATIVE OBJECTIVES* To make the system user- friendly I leave create a user interface so that it is easy to move just about the system.* To make the system look professional and organised.PERFORMANCE CRITERIAS* The system should be able to use a formula in order to work out the total cost of the insurance quote.* The system should be able to use a calculation in order to work out the cost of the insurance excluding the discount.* The system should be able to print multiple copies of the insu rance quotation.* The system should be password enable, so a password go out be needed in order to access the system to make sure the system is safe.* The system should show all the details about the customers such as names, surnames, addresses and other details.* The system should be able to store the issued quotes so that they can be used at a later date.* The system should have drop down buffetes so the user can select options speedily and easily.NEW SYSTEMHARDWAREIn order to computerise the quotation system I ordain need a Windows XP computer. I pass on also need a QWERTY keyboard and a mouse in order to input the data into the spreadsheet. I depart be using the hard drive to action the spreadsheet on an internal terminus. I leave also be saving the spreadsheet on an external storage such as CR-RW so that I have a back- up copy of the data in case the original copy is deleted I will still have another copy. I will also be using a VDU (visual display unit) to see the spr eadsheet. I will also be using a printer to print out the quotes so that the user can see them and then send them to S S Insurances.SOFTWAREIn order to produce the car insurance quotation system I will be using spreadsheet bundle for many reasons. In a spreadsheet I can use many of the features which will enable me to produce an efficient quotation system. I can use macros, enumerate street corneres, combo boxes, V Lookup, IF statements and other features in the system. There is other software such as a word- processor or a database but they are not fitting for this quotation system. Although you can make tables and do basic calculations they are only limited as they are not mainly designed for that purpose.I will be using Microsoft Excel 2003 as I do not have any other spreadsheet software available on my computer. I will also use it as I am more familiar with it as I have used it many times in the past.SECURITYI will need to make sure the spreadsheet I create will be kept safe and secure. I will need to make sure the data is secure as I will need to follow the Data bulwark Act 1998. In order to comply with the law I will honor the data safe by having cell protection so if anyone other than me or the user accesses the data he will need to enter the password in order to alter the information. I will also persevere a backup copy of the system so if the user loses the original copy he will still have another backup copy.INPUT, PROCESSES AND OUTPUTInputI will input all the data required using a keyboard into the spreadsheet. The input data I will need in order to produce the quotation system are all the customer details and the headings.I will require the following specific data about the customers forename, surname, address, sex, model and make of the car.I will also need the age of the driver, which will be in a grouped arrangement e.g. 17- 19 or 60- 65.The type of insurance the driver wants will also be required whether it is, fully comprehensive, third party only or third party fire and theft. I will abbreviate the type of insurance to make it shorter so it would be much quicker to type and also easier.I will also need to know what type of area the driver lives in, as this could be a risk factor, low, strength or high.I will also need to know if the driver would like to state an extra driver or not. I will also need to know the number of claims the driver has made in the past 4 years and whether he is eligible for a discount. The other details I will need to know is about the insurance and which rating the cars are allocated according to their power and cost. I will also need to know about the multipliers so that I can work what I need to multiple the costs, these will be allocated to the sex, age of driver, risk of area and insurance and type. The final detail I will need to know are the number of penalty points the customer has, as having more conviction point will increase the cost of the insurance quote.ProcessesIn order to cr eate the quotation system I will need to carry out a number of processes with the input data in order to produce the takings. The fixed data will be the data that I will not change on the spreadsheet such as the main headings e.g. forename, surname, address. The variable data will be the data that will change. The data that will need to be changed are all the details about the customer and his car.In order to fulfil the following user requirements I will carry out a number of processes* To be able to see the total cost of the insurance quote and to be able to see the total cost of the insurance quote before a discount is given.I will be using a formula to calculate the total costs of the quote and also to work out the cost excluding the discount. I will be using a simple gondola sum calculation in order to do this. In order to work out the total cost I will need to use a V Lookup formula. A V Lookup searches for a look on in the leftmost column of a table, and then returns a value in the same rows from a column you specify in the table. I will be using a V Lookup formula since I will having different things on different sheets it will need to lookup the values in other cells.* To be able to print the quotation. In order to do this the user can use the menu options on the toolbar however to make it easier for the user I will have a macro.* To make sure that system is safe and secure. In order to keep the data safe I will be using cell protection. I will be keeping a password so when someone accesses the single file he will be prompted to enter the password. If the password entered is correct he will gain access and be able to change the data. However if an incorrect password is entered an error message will appear informing the user he cannot gain access.* To be able to see the details of all the customers such as forename, surname, age, and the type of insurance they would like.In order to do this I will have a sheet where the details about the customer can b e seen.* To be able to store the issued quotes so that they can be used at a later date.In order to do this I will be using macros. large is a feature that stores a series of commands so that the user can use them with a iodine command. I will be using macros for various things such as printing the quote, storing the quotes, to view the quotes and other tasks.* To enable phone enquiries to be dealt much quickly. In order to fulfil this requirement I will be using a variety of buttons to make it easier for the user. Option buttons are used for choosing one incident from a list of options, where you can select one option button at a time. I will be using them so the user can select the sex of the driver, either male or female. Combo boxes can also be called drop- down boxes, which offer a number of choices to the user, one of which maybe selected. I will be using a combo box so that my user can select the drivers car. By selecting on the drop- down arrow will provide the models of t he cars. A list box and combo boxes are alike however a list box shows the choices available without having to heel on the arrow.I will be using a list box for the risk sound judgment of the area and type of insurance, as there are only three options from which the user can select. A check box is a box, which can either be selected or unselected, when you click on the box a tick appears in the box. I will be using a check box for the declaration of the extra driver. A spinner is made up of two arrows, one point up and the other down. By clicking on the up arrow increases the value and the down arrow decreases the value. I will be using the spinner to choose the number of years the driver has made no claims. I will also be using IF statements in order to see the values of the check box which will check whether the customer would like an extra driver.* To make the system user- friendly. In order to make the printed quote professional and organised I will be adding the name of the com pany, address, telephone numbers and the company logo at the top. I will also arrange all the information into sections and add emblazon to make it look more attractive. I will create the macros into buttons so the user can quickly carry the tasks. I will also add a comportment end to the system. A front end is the name given to the user-friendly interface that will appear on the secrecy when the file is loaded. It will provide the user with a number of options.Once the data has been entered I will need to rename the worksheets and insert a defined name for certain data which will be used in calculations.OutputThe output will be the full quote details, which will be on the screen of the computer showing the customer name, address, car details, and the cost of the insurance and without the discount. The output on the screen will also show the macros, which can be used to navigate around the system. The other output will be the fully modified and professional printed quote that will show the company logo along with the companys address and contact numbers. It will also show the issue date, all the details about the quote and the expiry date of the quote.

A Book That Has Had an Impact on Me Essay Example for Free

A Book That Has Had an Impact on Me EssayDuring my fourth social class of secondary school, I became acutely aware of the Womens Rights Issue. I made an attempt to re-examine numerous of the cultural norms that I had previously accepted as just being the natural order of things. unrivalled of the paths I took to expand my awareness of the female psyche involved womens literature. That is why I spent hotshot weekend of my life in bedcrying, laughing, feeling sometimes confused, and often, incredibly angry and distraught. On that rainy Humboldt Friday darkness I had decided to read The Womens Room. The author, Marilyn Fridey, describes the recognizes of several women from the 1950s to present. These women are nothing out of the ordinary. They either go to college and then get married, or they get married without bothering about the pretense of collegeafter all, they know that college is only a way to find more economically promising husbands. Most of my life I had revered, respected and admire my father for going to college, being intelligent and worldly, having power and control. In short for being a man. My mother always seemed too wishy-washy, easily trodden upon, overly dependent because she had chosen the persona of housewife, mother. I rebelled against the tradition, and feared wearing those bondage someday. Consequently, I strove to be like my father. Until this book, I never realized how much more courage it took for a person to live within a stifled role, and find contentment by living through other people.During that night of crying I understood my mother for the fi rst timeI respected her inner strength, compassion, gentleness. always since then, my relationship with my mother has evolved, and we are very close. M each companies depend on electronic communication because information actors line occurs within different locations. in that location are also people that travel on their job and have no choice but to communicate through electronics. Not only is electronic communication fast and convenient it is the source of communication which allows for the responses and flexibility in replying. Despite the many advantages of electronic technology in the workplace, there are potential disadvantages including, the casualty of decreases patient safety, and breach of confidentiality (Broussard 2013). Many tutelagegivers or physicians have mobile devices usually supplied by their organization. Social media plays a major part in daily feeling for most people. Many advantages and disadvantages come along with using social media especially in a health care setting. Technology is not perfect and is still prone to malfunctions. There is also the possibility of virus or hackers to come about when organizations are using social media. When a health organization uses social media it is important to have basic rules and regulation set in place to help check efficiency versus misuse. In the health care world, patient confidentiality is a primary concern. HIPPA is what help to protect patients personal medical information.Electronic and social media communication use in health care communication enforces patient security and adherence to Joint Commission guidelines and rules. Maintaining confidentiality, however, is becoming more difficult. It was easy to verify the protection of individual privacy when files are in paper folders. It was not a perfect method, but it worked because information is powerful and it must be available for all to review. Information systems and other technology straight off allow instant retrieval of medical information, along with widening access for a greater number of people (McCall, 2000).The use of electronic and social media communication will ultimately affect HIPPA, because these forms of technology modernise in the health care world the HIPPA law must also transform and change unendingly protect patients (McCall, 2000). The HIPPA law is in place to protect patients and although communicating through social media or any other form of electronics. The use of these forms of communication does put the exposure of private information risks. However, it is important for every health care organization to have their own set of rules and regulations to help prevent exposures. Each entity booked in electronic transmission of health information must ass ess potential risks and vulnerabilities to the individual electronic health data. Organizations must develop, implement, maintain, and document appropriate security measures based on the risk assessment (Peterson 2001). In conclusion, health care and communication go hand in hand. Traditional communication is still at the forefront in health care when it comes to efficient communication. Electronic communication is very convenient and necessary when it comes to many different job types. Lastly, social media helps to market and bring in new ideas to the health care field. Overall, Traditional, Electronic, and social media willcontinue to play a part in health care communication. As health care evolves communication, as well privacy and security methods must evolve as well.ReferencesBroussard, B. S., Broussard, A. B. A Rose for Emily essay Essay Example for Free

A Rose for Emily essay examineSometimes in life, the suppression of ones ambitions combined with the fear of loneliness can petabyte to a clinging of the familiar. This is evident in William Faulkners short stratum A Rose for Emily in which an emotionally unstable Emily Grierson poisons her lover, Homer Barron, to prevent him from deserting her. Because of the Griersons high social status, the townspeople keep up with Emilys either move although she had become a recluse in the years following her oppressive tiros death. With an overall forthright tone, Faulkner creates a surprise ending by using an unconventional plot psychogenic synthesis and conveys the dangerous extremesone may resort to in order for love. At basic glance, the ending of A Rose for Emily may come as a shock due to the unchronological plot, but in hindsight on that point are m some(prenominal) clews that Faulkner uses to suggest an unfortunate resolution. The surprise, of course, is the revelation of Em ilys necrophilic tendency to embrace the corpse of Homer. The first ominous hint toward Emilys crime is when a smell developed two years afterwardward her fathers death and a short time after her sweetheartdeserted her. This evokes a feeling of curiosity as to what could be causing such a stench in Emilys home that would attract the neighbors attention.Later, when her father died, the doctors had to try to persuade her to let them dispose of the body. Even though her selfish father drove away all of her suitors provided so he could keep Emily as a maid, with null left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her. Because her father was all she had known, Emily refused to let him go even though he robbed her of any opportunity at love. Her clinging to Mr. Grierson after his death strongly foreshadows her future clinging to Homer after she murders him. The next clue involves Emilys purchasing of arsenic from a druggist. When he informs her that thelaw requires a reason for the purchase, Miss Emily just stared at him, her head tilted back in order to look him eye for eye chivalric him to try forcing the reason from her. This suspicious action evokes a feeling of suspense as Miss Emilys intentions are still unclear but obviously harmful. Had she planned to use the arsenic only for rats, why would she withhold her reason from the druggist? One final hint is given after Emilys see relatives leave the town and within three days Homer Barron was back in town. He is admitted into Emilys house and the storyteller remarks that was the last we saw of Homer Barron. Once more, apprehensiveness is apparent as the narrators statement is usually uttered only when a person is presumed to have died. These hints would certainly see the surprise prematurely had they been told in a conventional, chronological plot.If Faulkner presented them in orderfirst Emilys clinging to Mr. Grierson after his death, her purchasing of arsenic, Homers disappearance into Emilys ho me, and then the acrid smell emanating from her homethe refinement would be far more predictable. Through the use of an unchronological, unorthodox plot structure, Faulkner is able toastound the ratifier with an appalling resolution.Although many ominous hints add to the suspense, the resolution remains unknown. Had the events unfolded in consecutive time, the surprise element of the conclusion would not have been as effective. Emilys embracing of the corpse of her dead lover shows her mental instability as she resists letting go of what is familiar to her, just as she did with her father. A morbid story with an unconventional plot structure, A Rose for Emily provides insight into how a fear of loneliness can drastically affect ones actions and mental state.

Hemingway’s fiction is not his suicide note Essay Example for Free

Hemingways lying is non his suicide note Essay solemn Hemingway, the literary genius of the late 1800s produced volumes upon volumes of both poetry and fiction. After a short and very fruitful life Hemingway practiceted suicide besides failed to succeed in initial attempts. Later, he finally succumbed to the great equalizer termination. Some people study surmised that Hemingway left clues to his un equivalently demise in his fiction, however, suicide cut the strings before they were painfully wasted out Hemingway attempted to suck life dry of anything and everything he could fathom (Gunsberg, 1995) This basically path that Hemingway believed that it was essential to experience everything, notwithstanding death, to enrich his art and craft. Although Hemingway committed suicide, and although many of his work focuses on death and suicide, it would be grossly unfair to conclude that he foret grey-headed his suicide in his fiction because this would be underestimating the po wer of the author and his genius. A brilliant writer like Hemingway used his fiction as a form of exploration of the human designate and not as a reflection of his own condition. It would be very forward to suppose that Hemingway used his fiction to foretell his suicide as many writers and literaturists would agree that although literature is a means of exposing internal emotions, it is also a means of release hence, Hemingways fiction is to a greater extent of an congresswoman of his literary genius than they are, as most would suppose, cries of help of a man in pain. Therefore, Hemingways fiction could not be considered his suicide notes. For compositors case, in the story Indian Camp (Hemingway), the author does narrate an instance where the Indian Father commits suicide, (Hemingway) but this is simply used as a platform for the push through of emancipation from pain as illustrated by the contrasting incident of the Indian Mother who is professionally attended to by Dr. Adam s who stops her pain and successfully delivers her baby. (Hemingway) In this particular story, it is not so much the suicide that is the screw but the prospect of hope and new beginnings that takes center stage.Another story where suicide is tackled is A moderately and Well Lighted Place (Hemingway) where Hemingway portrays the pain of old age suffered by a deaf old man (Hemingway). In this particular story, there is an incident where the old man attempts to commit suicide by hanging himself, but the noose is cut by his niece and foils his attempt. (Hemingway) The story, albeit tackling suicide in one of its details does not necessary give much value to this issue, it even illustrates how one cannot escape the pains that accompanies life that not even death can release us humans from what we countenance to deal with in life. So, if cautiously considered, this particular story does not actually vindicate Hemingways own suicide, in fact it even serves to sissify his own attempt by i ndirectly implying that if the author believed that suicide was not a means of remnant the suffering of existence as shown in his fiction, then he would have been a great coward to commit what he was writing against. Hemingway did not use his stories as a platform for the justification of his own suicide he had his own reasonablenesss for his suicide, and those reasons are not in any way committed to his stories. Finally, in Hills like White Elephants (Hemingway) the author tackles the issue of abortion with a couple arguing all over whether to have it (the baby) or not the man insisting of having an abortion and the woman, subtlely indicating that she would like to have the baby. (Hemingway) Although there is no reference to suicide in this particular Hemingway story, what is obvious is the argument between two people regarding the issue of ending a life, which, by the way, is not really an argument that you would normally hear from ordinary chat.In this story, Hemingway, again, although, very discreetly, makes references to why life should be valued and why it should be considered with utmost respect, even firing to the extent of contrasting childbirth with happiness. (Hemingway) Easily, from this story it is immediately evident that the author was against any form of taking away life intentionally, and so totally debunks the assumption that his fiction was an indirect indication of his consequent suicide. If such(prenominal) is the case, then it can be easily concluded that Hemingway committed suicide for a higher reason this being related to the progress of his art and craft.Like many other writers who had grappled with the peculiarities of life, Hemingway was no different and like many other creative writers then and now, it has to be considered that art, in any form, is already a means of airing out recluse emotions it is a release that is even perhaps more effective than death itself. Hemingway, like many other artists during his time, had peculiari ties of his own, and what most of these writers had in common was the ability to use the human condition as a platform in their work. While many of Hemingways stories talked about suicide, it has first to be understood that the author is not necessarily the I in any of his/her work, and so it would be rottenly unfair to affine subject matters in Hemingways stories to his actual existence. The relationship of the author to his story ends with his quest all the other things in the written work should be set apart from the author. It is very main(a) to assume that the author only writes about his/her own personal life because, then, creativity would not have as big a role in literature as it is supposed to have. What could be more accurate, however, is the fact that the literary genius of Hemingway was enough for people who read his work to assume that he was portent his own suicide. While this assumption is blatantly misdirected, it simply shows how a writer is able to twist and mi srepresent the minds of his indorsers to think that there is much more to his fiction than meets the eye (or mind). If such is the case, then every reader might as well apply for a position at the Vatican interpreting the ancient unfounded Sea scrolls. Works Cited Gunsberg, Ben.Earnest Hemingway Would Be King. Political success depended upon military success Essay Example for Free

governmental success depended upon military success EssayPolitical success depended upon military success. To what extent do the sources support the view of the ways in which politicians achieved success in capital of Italy? Success in the battlefield and the support of the army -that is if exploited correctly- could be the catalyst for whiz to climb the ladder and acquire a prominent semi semi governmental career. Military success at Rome was important but not a tackle for political success, nevertheless the two were not entirely independent from each other but interlinked. Rome had managed to expand by employing his strong army and undefeated generals however numerous forces were constantly required as Rome was composite in long and continual wars in ordinance to maintain its domination, making military distinction a contributing factor for political advancement, however there were alternative ways to be considered or better, be combined in order to achieve political square up. The various roman sources, their dependability controversial and under scrutiny, each provide diverse prospective. Two of our main sources are Plutarch and Suetonius, both biographers that focuse on their protagonists rather than on analysing the political good font and did not live by means of the events they describe but during roman republic. Plutarch provided a Greek outlook as he didnt really understand the complex nature of Roman government and machinations and he tended to moralisation. As for Suetonius, creation imperial secretary provided him access to numerous sources and anecdotes. He behaves according to modern historians standards by listing his references with his reliability being equivalent to that of his sources. Our first hand accounts include Sallust, Cicero and Caesar, which are considered biased as each of them has his proclaim schedule to promote. Cicero, an optimates supporter, is a famous orator and novus homo, a prolific writer and speake r promoting his interests according to the audience he is addressing. Thus his speeches and letters must be evaluated accordingly, the former as being public knowledge, the latter(prenominal) as expressing his actions on a private, personal level.Sallusts dramatic descriptions are subjective and historically inaccurate, uniquely though contain historical analysis with Thusydidean realism instead of being chronological accounts. He wrote a farewell to politics, a concept he has excessive knowledge delinquent to his active part in Romes political life. He, also, widely supported his friend Caesar since he had saved his political life by revealing the decomposition and incompetence of the optimates and the propaganda they used against him.As for the historical account of his own wars that Caesar provided, it justified and glorified his actions. One of the politicians that achieved political success and a lordly by means of military means by conquering Italy and then the creation was Marius, a novus homo. He achieved to be select consul 7 consecutive times due to being fetching and important army reforms that strongly appealed to the masses are attributed to him. He was the 1st to use army as political tool by creating a semi-professional, fresh and numerous army.He distributed the spoils of war to the poorer plebs and land to veterans, therefore reconciled them with the political status quo and solved the problem of the landless and jobless by giving them the pick of enrolling in the army. Through the cohort formation he achieved unit bonding and allegiance and he introduced ingenious military training, new weapons and made the army more mobile, thus moulding it as one of the finest armies of past times. These brought flocks dedication and loyalty to his name. The army became a strong force, subsequently who had adjudge over it could also control RomeMarius was gradually overshadowed by red valerians military successes which include the capture of J ugurtha with the risk of his own life, an event that boosted his political career. With his diplomatic skills, he became consul and marched into Rome twice enabling him to be appointed a dictator. His political agenda included the reformation of the system which included the proscription and execution of Marians, the crippling of the agent of the tribune and strengthen of the magnanimousness and thus the Senate by increasing its members to 600.He maintained his predominance by giving to 10 000 slaves independence and Roman citizenship, therefore, this class was always ready to safeguard his command. According to Caesar though, he didnt know his political alphabet as he retired at the peak of his career. Additinally, an extremely charismatic military general, a man of honor (Macer speech) was Pompey who through military success he managed to gain political office without even going through the cursus honorum (the ladder of progress through different magistracies until one becam e consul later on became conventional law, therefore it became dressing for accomplishing a political career).Pompey showed his brilliance by raising an army when only 23 to support Sulla and put mess Lepidus and Sertorius revolts, significantly acquiring the title Magnus. He was allowed to bypass the ancient Roman custom and at when only 35 years old, while not even a senator, he was elected Consul by an overwhelming majority vote. His political agenda included to undo Sullas reforms as he restored the power of the tribunes lost under Sullas dictatorship.Nevertheless, during fighting Sertorius at Spain, he faced the lack of proper funding, complaining to the senate, thus implied that gaining military and maintaining political success depends strongly on someones interaction with other bodies, as during a war the senate consents to provisions for the soldiers and the assembly ratifies or annuls treaties and peace. Once in 61 BC he call ined victorious and triumphant from the 3rd Mithridadic war, he had already managed to construct himself due to military victory. As for Crassus, he achieved his political influence through bribery since he was very rich and he ensured to put his own people into positions of power eg. Caesar. His military successes include his achievement to put down the Spartacus revolt even though his triumph was stolen by Pompey. Maybe, thats why when he failed to rise constitutionally through military command he alternatively got involved in the indented mow down of the Senate. Contrary, Cicero achieved his results by word (Plutarch) without his involvement in the army as the pen is mightier than the sword. He was from Arpinium, a municipia, and went through the cursus honorum until he became a novus homo with his election as consul. Rhetoric was his tool for politics as he was prominent at the law courts and became famous through the Verres case and for putting down the catelinarian conspiracy. Upon crushing the conspiracy he received t he title pater patriae that no one else, not even the or so victorious generals had gained and a procession was organised for him, something that they did only for those who had established important military successes.Cicero is the ideal example that plebeians had to counteract the hostility of the nobles in order to achieve political power as it was easier for patricians to gain positions in politics since they ruled by right of birth and their advice was employed in conducting all business due to mos maiorum. In 63 BC, Cicero was the first man to attain the consulship in over 30 years by-line the advices of commentariolum petitionis supposedly written by his brother Quintus but surely by someone with full spirit of roman politics. It was important for him to cultivate valuable friendships by glad handling the voters and keeping himself constantly in public life in order to overcome the political newness of his name by his reputation as a speaker through campaign promises which appealed to as many voters as possible. Political power was guarantee for Caesar as his success depended on his intimidating, dynamic, opportunist and cunning character.Due to his ambitious and diplomatic nature he managed to come to the limelight and later or secure his dominations by proving his military genius as he aimed to conquer the world as Alexander the Great -his model- did. He used marriage as a political tool, followed the cursus honorum and established in his consulship the monarchy which he planned while only an aedile(Cicero to Axius). Sulla had predicted his motives phrasing it as in this Caesar you will find many Mariuses.Ruthlessly he participated with Crassus to an intended conspiracy about the massacre of the senators and tried to convince the roman allies to revolt against the senate. Caesar cleverly -and as a Populares- gained the support of the people through his military victories, by passing an agrarian law and establishing bread and games exploiting Bibulus money. Even though he came from an old patrician family he was poor, thus he needed to rely on others. He used Lucceius money to increase his influence and became consul through bribery, corruption and clientelism exerted on voters.Caesar exceptionally good managed to outmanoeuvred his political opponents and establish a consulship of Julius and Caesar(Suetonius, Divius Julius, 20). This reinforces the sources that suggest that apart from military success illegal ways were also required. It is no co-occurrent that Rome is regarded as a timocracy as bribery and corruption were obvious (commit wrong for payment than do right for nothing-Macer speech) and necessary for political advancement (bribery excused for the sake of commonwealth) as well intermarriage and amicci, which included political coalition with other clans.Such an example of political alliance was the triumvirate formed to promote Caesars, Crassus and Pompeys mutual aims, swearing to oppose all public policies of whi ch any one of them might disapprove (Suetonius, Divius Julius, 19) and smoothing Pompey and Crassus hostile consanguinity as all 3 of them rose to power through it. In essence it was aimed against the Optimates since they dominated the Senate, the rightful(a) governor of Rome that one had to overthrow in order to gain absolute power. This had been an uneasy alliance based purely on interests and political convenience and once it outlived its usefulness it collapsed. Moreover the building pulley block of ones political career was the patronage allowing the nobles to maintain their influence and control the elections. Patrons would advance and protect the interests of their clients and in return the clients voted according to their patrons decision in the assembly. It was subservient, nonetheless, this was one of the ways Rome maintained its empire, by controlling its provinces through personal relations and entourages.
